Taking a Break

Do you also feel that “tiredness” that sometimes you just can’t explain how it exactly feels? Or maybe the more appropriate word would be “exhaustion”.

There are a lot of reasons why we feel exhausted sometimes. As for me, work occupies half of my pie. Do you ever notice how fast the pacing of changes in this world becomes each day? Everyone is getting engaged and married, gets a good paying job, travels the whole world, gets pregnant, etc. and everything’s posted on.. SOCIAL MEDIA. We make a life so ideal in photos that we almost forget what is real. Because believe it or not, those what-so-called ‘FEEDS’ are too far from reality.

Here are some of the things I do when I feel exhausted and tired :

1. I go to places where I know I can find peace.
It doesn’t matter if that place is overseas or just within your country. What matters is that you have a time to breathe far away from what keeps you exhausted. I had experienced some sort of mild depression before and traveling with groups I’m just acquainted with really helped me. Sometimes traveling with people who are not your long-time friends gives you a fresh start. It is also important that you go to a place where you know your mind can be at peace. As for me, connecting with the nature refreshes me. Now that it won’t be easy for me to file a vacation leave and go somewhere, I just go outside and stay under the shades of trees around. Luckily, I found a workplace that is surrounded by trees. You’ll just step outside your office and take some fresh air outside.

2. I grab some of my comfort food.
If you’re familiar of stress-eating, that’s exactly what is happening to me whenever I am stressed. I crave for sweet and salty food. But now, I make it a point that I eat those in moderate amount. For me, it somehow relieves me of the exhaustion. Grab your favorite chocolate! A little sugar won’t harm you. 🙂 Except of course if you’re stress-eating everyday.

3. I won’t open my social media accounts.
Have you noticed that whenever you browse your Facebook or Instagram accounts, you suddenly realize you’ve been browsing already for hours?! My college law professor once said, “That Facebook is like a jail. You sit and look at it for hours doing nothing.” And yes, now I know, it’s 100% true. 🙂 So whenever I feel exhausted, I avoid opening my social media accounts. You see, everything that has been posted there are very ideal, but far from reality. You don’t travel just to have something posted on Instagram. You don’t marry just to have something posted on your Facebook account. You travel to breathe and re-start. You marry to have someone to create a home with. How lovely is that, huh? As for me, what I cannot give up right now is my Messenger account because is the only way I communicate with my “bibi”. 😀 But other than that I know I can give up or deactivate.

4. I talk to my Mom or my boyfriend.
Sometimes I feel guilty that I make them listen to all my rants. But of course, they have no choice. Haha! I have a very few people I call friends. I think I only have one true friend and my Mom and my boyfriend are my only best friends. It is important that there is someone who knows how to listen to all your thoughts and asks you how you feel. It really is. Luckily, they always give me a good laugh whenever I talk to them so that I can forget whatever is bothering me.

5. I pray.
There is this cliché, “Why worry, when you can pray?” There are a lot of practices that my current workplace is sharing with me. There is Yoga and Meditation, but nothing really beats the power of prayer. Whenever I feel like I wanted to burst and cry, I just talk to My Creator–God. He has all the answers to all my questions. He is my peace. He is my Savior. And I can talk to Him anytime and anywhere. And He will surely listen.
